Circular Pond Calculator

Please enter all values in feet and decimals of feet (i.e. 10.5). The liner size calculation includes a 2' overlap for pond edging.
The pond volume is calculated on the average pond depth formulated for pump circulation once an hour. However, you may choose to circulate the water twice every hour. If so, multiply the calculated gallonage by 2.

Liner Size:
EPDM liners come in widths of:  5'  10'  15'  20'  25'  and 30'
(The liner we usually sell at our store has a width of 15 feet).
If the liner size for the pond you have designed is irregular (example a 18' x 24') you will  have to purchase a liner 20' x 24' which has a number ( i.e. 20) that conforms to one of the width numbers above. Length is not an issue, it is of course the width of the liner that must conform to the above dimensions.

Pump Size:
Typically, you want your pump to be able to circulate the entire volume of the pond at least once per hour. If you require a larger flow for your waterfall, get a larger pump and with the use of " T's or Y's" and ball valves you can make a by- pass assembly so that your filtration unit receives only the flow it is rated for and the remainder of the flow goes directly to the waterfall. If your using a Biofilter such as a Cyprio Bioforce (which are pressurized) you may take the discharge from the filter and re-route it to the waterfall also. This way you get the proper filtration and a waterfall has a flow you really like.

Filter Size:
It is optimum to process all the water in your pond through your filtration device once every hour. Check the flow rate of your Biofilter to be sure your filter size is adequate. Be certain your pump, filter, and UV sterilzer are all matched to the size of your pond (volume). And remember, a little larger is ALWAYS better.

UV Sterilizer Size:
Be certain your pump, filter, and UV sterilzer are all matched to the size of your pond (volume).

Fish Stock:
For KOI, we recommend having at least 1000 gallons, and a pond with at least a 2 1/2 foot depth. In Japan, they recommend having 1000 gallons for EACH KOI! But we think having at least 1000 gallons for the first Koi, and an additional 100 gallons for each additional Koi, should provide enough space for your pets. If you plan on having ANY fish or aquatic life, you MUST have a proper pump and filter for your animals to survive!
